Welcome to the Samba Cup, which gives us the hard versions of the themes. Well, the first four anyway. You’ll be seeing the first two in this video, which are pretty merciful. The Samba Cup is named after the Samba de Amigo series, which are rhythm games under the motif of Latin America. The Dreamcast games had a rather expensive maraca add-on that was motion-sensitive. You’d hold one in each hand, and it would detect high, middle, or low. As with all other rhythm games, you must follow the signals the game gives you in time to the music. Samba de Amigo was revived for the Wii, using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk this time. A natural fit (I thought of Samba de Amigo the moment I saw the motion-sensing for the Wii Remote), but the game sold poorly and there’s unlikely to be any more Samba de Amigo in the near future. You will not see any Samba de Amigo from me–there are licensed songs that are illegal to display without permission from the record companies; these cost thousands of dollars per song. None of them are in this game, however. The character I’m using this time is BD Joe. He’s a happy guy who also happens to be a Crazy Taxi driver. There isn’t really a plot to the games; your goal is to get as much money in taxi fare as possible within the time limit. You drive around a large city looking for passengers. They’ll tell you where they want to go, and you need to get there as quickly as possible. This can mean driving in places you’re not supposed to drive–through …
