About two weeks before the wrecking ball was about to completely demolish our old Hyundai Motor America headquarters building in Fountain Valley, California, we had a crazy thought: Wouldn’t it be cool to do something outrageous inside the building before all the walls finally came down? Actually, it was Dustin Loranger, one of our Service Technicians, who had the idea…and we loved it. Why not put Rhys Millen, his Genesis Coupe drift car, and our abandoned HQ together for a unique drift demonstration in a unique industrial setting? Rhys was up for the challenge, and remarkably, so were our lawyers, so we put this thing together, with tongue (and donut) firmly planted in cheek. We think the video does a pretty good job showcasing Rhys’ car control skills, the sweetness of the Genesis Coupe drift car, and the reason why Hollywood probably doesn’t have to worry, just yet, about this cast and crew. How’d we do?

Formula DRIFT kicks-off the 8th championship season on the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Street Course. 2011 will be Formula DRIFT’s 6th consecutive year at the famous Street Course. The expanded 2-day event will again be one week prior to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.Round 1: Streets of Long Beach will kick-off the 2011 Championship season in style with new cars, new drivers, and all the sideways excitement that Formula DRIFT is known for. Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. will be back to defend his title against all competitors including Ryan Tuerck, Dai Yoshihara, Chris Forsberg, Rhys Millen, and the rest of the talented pool of drivers.

FONTANA, CA — After finishing second in the “Title Fight” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, CA, Formula Drift’s final event of the year, Team Falken’s Vaughn Gittin Jr., driver of the Monster Energy/Falken Tire 2011 Ford Mustang, became the Formula D Champion of the 2010 season. It was the 11th podium finish for Team Falken in seven Formula D races, a season in which the tire company’s factory-supported teams dominated all year long. Falken placed first in five of the seven events. Three Team Falken drivers were in the top five in the final standings. Total points between the top five drivers were close, but Gittin Jr. was clearly the favorite after taking two wins in the six races leading up to the Title Fight. He finished the season with 632 points. Irwindale winner Tanner Foust eventually finished second in the standings at 568.5, and Team Falken Driver Daijiro Yoshihara ended up fourth overall, just one point behind third place Ryan Tuerck. Team Falken Driver Darren McNamara took fifth. “This was Jr.’s year plain and simple, said Jonathan Bradford, Falken’s Drift Team Supervisor. “There is a lot to be said about finishing on the podium six out of seven events this year. It was a pleasure to be involved with a team that left everything on the track and drove with an all-in attitude.
