Bullit — On the Road Again — Canned Heat — Car Chase

The world famous car chase in Bullit backed up by On the Road Again by Canned Heat. Film and record released in 1998. High profile San Francisco Police Lieutenant Frank Bullitt is asked personally by ambitious Walter Chalmers, who is in town to hold a US Senate subcommittee hearing on organized crime, to guard Johnny Ross, a Chicago based mobster who is about to turn evidence against the organization at the hearing. Chalmers wants Ross’ safety at all cost, or else Bullitt will pay the consequences. Bullitt and his team of Sergeant Delgetti and Detective Carl Stanton have Ross in protective custody for 48 hours over the weekend until Ross provides his testimony that upcoming Monday. Bullitt’s immediate superior, Captain Bennet, gives Bullitt full authority to lead the case, no questions asked for any move Bullitt makes. When an incident occurs early during their watch, Bullitt is certain that Ross and/or Chalmers are not telling them the full story to protect Ross properly. Without telling Bennet or an incensed Chalmers … if you like car chases this is THE CLASSIC. From IMDb The chase sequence takes place over a number of non-contiguous streets in and south of San Francisco. The sequence apparently starts under Highway 101 in the Mission District. When the Charger does a U-turn on what is Precita Avenue to follow the Mustang, a storage tank on Potrero Hill, in the southeast part of SF, is visible in the distance. The next few scenes are in the Bernal and Potrero areas …

LAPD pursuit in South LA police car chase

LAPD began pursuing a man who allegedly threatened a police officer at the Southwest LAPD station. Police chased the man as he drove at a high rate of speed around the south LA area, mainly in the vicinity south of USC, hitting several cars in traffic. At one point police attempted the pit maneuver on the car causing it to spin only lightly. The man continued to evade officers as he drove around Normandie Ave. between Exposition Blvd and W. Jefferson Blvd. Officers pursued the suspect for nearly a half an hour as he drove the wrong way on several streets and on sidewalks in South Los Angeles. One officer tried to drive on the right side of the vehicle in what appeared to be an attempt to stop the suspect from diving on the sidewalk again but the officer’s car crashed on a palm tree. When the suspect slowed down and made a u-turn in front of a Metro bus on Normandie Ave at W. 37th Pl., police tried the pit maneuver once again this time causing the suspect’s car to collide with another car as police moved their cruisers to trap the man and preventing him from opening his door. Police moved in aggressively reaching through the suspects windows to try to nab him. The suspect moved his car a bit more, trying to get away, before officers got a hold of the car’s keys from the ignition switch. Still, the man seemingly refused to cooperate with officers as he remained in the car. Police smashed the rear window then a short moment later the suspect got out of the car. Police then …

Learn: Handbrake Turn

Handbrake turn is a technique which will allow you to turn your car a sharp 180 degree facing the opposite direction. This is one of the easiest car techniques that I know. But, you need to practice it more often. Then only, you’d be able to do it easily. Usually, we do a three point turn in order to achieve a condition stated above. But using the handbrake turn technique, you’ll be abble to do just that, using a U-turn and it will need just minimal space requirements than the conventional method. So, you may find it a handy, in situations when you are with smaller area for taking the turn.

You may use any car of your choice for doing this. But I would recommend a front wheel drive car. And the speed at which you should start should be like 30-35 mph. And don’t think of making it too low or a lot higher than the given range. Doing so won’t make you turn a sharp 180 degree. Also, there are factors other than the speed limit which decides the turning degree. Well, some of them are the road conditions and the nature and type of the tires of your car.

Well, first of all you need to position one of your hands in the steering wheel at the right place. Well, if you are in a left hand drive car, then the right place to place your left hand should be on the right side of the steering wheel. It will depend on the side to which you wanna turn the car as well. If you are with an automatic transmission car, then put the car to neutral at first. After that make sure that the other hand is placed on the hand brake. Don’t use the handbrake now. It’s not the time to apply the handbrake. Only after you start turning the car, you should think of pulling the handbrake. Now, it’s time to provide acceleration smoothy a bit as discussed earlier, and make if you are in an automatic transmission car, then put the car in neutral. And start rotating the steering wheel to one of the sides as you prefer. Rotate the steering wheel until, it gets locked. After a quick second, apply the e-brake if you have it in your car. Otherwise you may yank the handbrake lever. This will ultimately lock the rear wheels. Now, the car will start to turn and during this time you may bring the steering wheel to the center making the front wheels to curve out straight.
